The Bricklayers is a nice pub. The real ales are well kept and enjoyable. It is a shame that it doesnt open till 5.30 in the evenings. The food is lovely especially the Sunday lunches. There does seem to be a big pool of "locals" but shows it is a good pub. Dont get put off by the two fat bikers at the end of the bar, there were very polite to me and my wife, even if they did swear a lot.

I worked in Colchester, near the Bricklayers, for almost ten years, and spent most lunch-times in the Brickies with friends and colleagues from the office. The food was of high quality and the beers and wine were excellent. Fred and Hazel were superb hosts, particularly Hazel, who had a superb sense of humour. Their children, Erica and Shane? were pleasant and friendly. I was made redundant from my job and now work in Chelmsford and very much miss the Bricklayers. I now drink at lunch-times in Pincho's Tapas Bar, Baddow Road, Chelmsford. I can highly recommend it if you are visiting Chelmsford.

I have to say, after reading the below which I happen to find shocking. What the hell is everyone talking about. I am in the Bricklayers a few nights of the week and I find it a nice friendly, local pub!!! The Landlord and Landlady are lovely but say things how they are! If people dont like drinking in there perhaps they should find somewhere else!

well where shall i start.
the people that drink in
this pub are an excellent bunch !!
The landlord however is a dirty old pervert!!
and if u dont flirt back with him he will, proceed by kicking you out of the pub blaming it on the amount you have had to drink.
seen him do this on numerous occasions, disgusted by it!!
why own a pub if you cant have a laugh and yes the son does serve a "good coke"
as ive heard many o' times!!!

Ive been drinking down the bricklayers for many years now,and wish to remain anonymos for professional reasons. The name i have used is completeley unrelated to my trade. I like to start my days lurking around the local CO-OP asking the locals for charitable donations of clothing as i now resort to tucking my trousers in to my socks. I also like to unwind down my local pub on a friday night, where it is true that you are gauranteed a drunken landlord and his moody wife, "AND THEY TELL ME IVE HAD TO MUCH TO DRINK" after two drinks? Wet potatoes and not so much as a thank-you when i hand over my hard earned cash. But who wants to listen to a washed up old PLUMBER like me.

When I visited England last year,I thought id visit its oldest town, Colchester. After spending a lovely day here I had to get a train home,so went in the bricklayers for a pint while i waited for my train. I thought id walked back on to the set of the A Team, with the landlord looking like Hannibal Smith with his cigar. When i was served a pint the landlady had more attitude than Mr T, I daren't ask for crisps in case she replied "I aint got no plain"

The place was ruined with the watery booze, the scurvy and lice. I shot the captain between the eyes and he blessed me as he fell.
I murdered the wife executioner style, she to her credit cried that he had cheated on her and made her the hated bint she were.
The daughter fell to the crew who cast her back as tainted by bad luck and poor owners.
Me hearties, abandon said ship and swim down the plughole fer a more favourable birth.
This ship be cursed...................

Place is rotten from door to door. Landlady's a shrew faced fright and the husband's a sot. The daughter's fifty pence a go and the customers need burying.

well worth a visit, the beers are always fantastic along with the landlords daughter, who needs you
