In the picturesque village of Colne Engaine, secluded and peaceful, The Five Bells inn is well worth seeking out. This top-of-the-range inn boasts an extremely handsome interior, with many original features and an air of real luxury and comfort. The elegance and grace of a gentler age is captured in this superior inn.

The building dates back over 500 years, and a record of the inn's landlords going back to 1579 is proudly displayed in the bar area.

The recently refurbished interior retains lovely features such as the original exposed timbers and is tastefully decorated and furnished; outside, a lovely terrace commands stunning views over the Colne Valley.

Owners Darran & Caroline Lingley are happy to uphold the inn's long and fine tradition of hospitality, quality and service. Affable hosts, they and their friendly staff make all their guests feel most welcome.

Open every session weekdays, and all day at weekends, there’s a choice of real ales available at this Free House, together with four draught lagers, Guinness, Strongbow and a good range of wines, spirits and soft drinks.

The menu is a happy mix of modern food and traditional values, and makes use of only the freshest ingredients and local produce. All food is home-cooked and freshly prepared, including the delicious breads. All the meat is cured and fish smoked on the premises.

Guests choose from the blackboard menu to sample the range of delicious favourites and more innovative dishes on offer.

Food is available between midday and 2pm and 7pm and 9.30pm.

The dining area seats 80 (no smoking; booking advised at weekends), while upstairs there’s a newly refurbished coffee lounge. For a real taste of old-world charm, great food and drink and genuine hospitality, look no further.
